Pro Tip: How to Shoot Better Phone Video
With the holidays just around the corner, many of you will have great opportunities to a lot of fun footage and pictures on your smart phones. But what separates “bad” smart phone video from “good” smart phone video. Whether it’s for fun or for business, this week’s pro tip is brought to you by Chris Woodley who has three tips for better smart phone video:
There are three main mistakes people are making when they’re shooting videos on their phones, and here’s what you want to watch out for:
1) Hold your phone horizontally!
We live in a widescreen world, and if you shoot your video with your phone in the portrait position, all of your videos are going to end up looking very small when you export them to YouTube… and that’s just not good.
2) Hold your phone steady!
Most of the phones we’re using today use CMOS chips, and if you wiggle them a little bit, you get “Jell-O vision” — where your footage just looks wobbly and not good.
3) Pay attention to lighting!
If you shoot someone against a bright background, you’re going to get a “nice” silhouette shot.
So those are three quick tips to help make your smart phone videos better this season. We hope you found these helpful, and we hope you have a great holiday season.
