Using Keepvid.com is an easy way to download videos from YouTube directly to your hard drive. Just follow these simple steps:
1.) Copy the URL of the YouTube video you wish to download from the address bar, as indicated by the arrow
2.) Go to Keepvid.com, and paste the URL for your YouTube video as indicated by the arrow. Next, you’ll want to click “DOWNLOAD” as shown with the other arrow (NOT the button with the “X” over it, this is an advertisement).
3.) Click on one of the three “Download MP4” options. After clicking “Download” in the previous screen, you’ll need to wait a few moments and you’ll soon seen this next screen. When you do, click on the file you wish to download (as shown in the box). You have the choice of a 480p standard definition file, a 720p HD file and a 1080p HD file. The 1080p file isn’t really necessary unless you plan to project the video on a big screen:
After these steps it’s simply a matter of waiting for the video to save to your hard drive. After that, you have the video to watch whenever you’d like, or have the option to upload it to a variety of different social media sites!
Welcome to the 35th feature of Friday’s Informal Facebook Films. You may be wondering why you’re looking at a still frame of me — well, it’s Friday the 13th, and some spooky stuff is happening over here. Somehow we lost the intro to the show, and my friend opened her computer to find a spider in it. That’s spooky stuff, so be careful, America.
We’d like to say thank you to Jan Summers, Andrea Vahl and Lisa McAlister for donating to our Muscular Dystrophy Fundraiser campaign last week and helping me get out of “jail”!
Get Paid for your Social Media Following with Wingsplay
Isn’t it time you cashed in on all your Facebook friends and Twitter followers? Well now, through a company called Wingsplay, you can. Wingsplay is a start-up company that allows you to get paid for sharing video ads with your social network. This will work on a “per click” basis, so the more influence you have in the Twitterverse or amongst your Facebook friends, the more likely you are to get paid. But this isn’t simply spamming Facebook and Twitter with tons of advertisements, they are designed to be videos that people actually enjoy watching. Founder Olivier Lasry stressed that he only “wants ads to be funny, gripping, cause-related or clever” What do you think of this idea? Would you be willing to earn a little cash in order to share an ad that you thought was funny or interesting? Let us know in the comments.
Ramblin Jackson’s Really Remarkable Report – Airbag Bike Helmets
Are you a cyclist AND a fashionista? A bicycle helmet may be a lifesaver, but it’s hard to coordinate your outfit with that bulky thing. However, it appears our friends up in Scandinavia have figured out a way to protect your head, without committing any fashion faux paus. A company called Hovding has designed a collar meant to be worn around the neck while bicycling. What’s so special about this collar? Sensors inside the collar will deploy a hood-shaped airbag around the head any time an irregular motion, such as a swerve or bump, are detected. This airbag is inflated by a tiny gas inflator within the collar. But the best part, for all you fashion-conscious ladies out there, is that while the collar is not being deployed as an airbag, it has the appearance of a stylish scarf.
Pro Tip: How to Facebook Create Check-In Deals
This week’s pro tip is for those of you who have a local business. If people come into your store, ask them to Check-In on Facebook with their smartphone. Here’s why: when someone “Checks In” on their phone, their Friends see that they’ve checked into your business. Having your customers promote you in this way is the bees knees, and getting started is easy.
Simply click on Edit Page under the Manage tab at the top of your Page. In the left column, click on Deals, and then follow the instructions to create your Check-In deal.
Now that you’ve created your Deal, promote it in your store with flyers in your window, at check out, or even in the bathroom!
Well that’s all the time we have for today. We have a workshop in Denver next Wednesday afternoon Facebook + Email Marketing. There are only 5 seats left — and if you purchase your ticket today, I”ll give you a free copy of the constant contact guide to email marketing. RamblinJackson.com/events

RJ News: Myspace Gains 1 Million New Users Last Month
Remember Myspace? You know the one where you were friends with Tom? Well it looks like it may be making a bit of comeback. A few years ago Myspace came under new ownership including Justin Timberlake owning a piece of the company and reinvented itself as a social media site strictly focused around music. It looks like this strategy may be paying off as they reported 1 million new members last month. That’s about 40,000 new members a day! That’s still a far cry from Facebook’s numbers, but it looks like Myspace may be the place to go for free streaming music.
What do you think about Myspace’s recent success? Let us know in the comments.
Really Remarkable Report – The Hunt for Bigfoot!
Bigfoot is out there! No, really. And no, I’m not talking about the old monster truck.
It all started, of course, with the old blurry Patterson film taken back in the late 60’s in norther California. Ever since, people have been convinced “Sasquatch” exists and some people have even gone looking. Such is a team of Animal Planet investigators who have been searching for over a year. Their show “Finding Bigfoot” is now heading into its 2nd season and they’re bringing out the big guns – night vision technology! Perhaps the use of technology and a TV production budget is what it will finally take to prove whether or not Bigfoot really exists.
All of this begs the question – like the supposed Wooly Mammoth sighting last week – why are all of these photographs and films always BLURRY? I mean, if we blur me, am I now some sort of weird extraterrestrial being? Chris…?
Pro tip – put your friggin’ phone number in your email signature!
One of the best ways to appear more professional, besides wearing a tie and carrying a black leather suitcase everywhere you go, is to have a personalized, stylized E-mail signature. An e-mail signature should ideally have your name, your company name, phone number, address and more depending on what you want. One of the best tools for designing your signature is with Wisestamp. Wisestamp is an app that you can add to most E-mail servers that allows you to customize your E-mail signature. One of the best features of Wisestamp is you can add icons to the bottom of your signature that take people to your Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and other social media sites.
Well that’s all the time we have for today, hope you enjoy the snow and as always don’t hesitate to let us know what you think in the comments or on Facebook! See ya next week!
Oh, hi…Happy Friday and Happy February! Welcome to the 26th Episode of FIFF!
This Wednesday we hosted a Facebook and Email Marketing workshop with Constant Contact at the University of Denver. It was our first time presenting to a sold out audience, and boy, was it fun. It was so fun, in fact, that we have two more workshops coming in March. Check that out at ramblinjackson.com/events.
This week’s Pro Tip is for those of you who are lacking inspiration for your Social Media content. If you haven’t already, check out what your competitors are doing on Social Media, and steal ideas from them. This may sound creepy or dishonest, but really, it’s just part of market research.
But if you really want to get creepy — you could run Facebook advertisements that target the Fans of your competitors… think about that.
Well, that’s all the time we have for this week, we hope you’re enjoying the big snowstorm! As always, please let us know what you think in the comments and we’ll see you next week!

Google Announces Ice Cream Sandwich
This week, Google announced the Ice Cream Sandwich, a new operating system designed to give people a more intuitive experience. Some of the new features include a new layout, new notifications, offline search in Gmail, and Face Unlock — a facial recognition tool used to unlock your gadgets… with your face. So, how do you get your Ice Cream Sandwich? That’s a great question… who knows if your current device will even use this operating system or when it will be released? That’s one of the major criticisms of Android — with all the gadgets that use their operating system and the variety of service providers, who knows if and/or when it will work.
Ramblin Jackson’s Really Remarkable Reports
Today we’re introducing a new segment called “Ramblin Jackson’s Really Remarkable Reports.” We’ll share whacky news items with you.
Do you think that you could solve a Rubik’s Cube in 5 seconds? Well, a new robot apparently can do it. A tech research company released a video on YouTube showing their robot completing a Rubik’s Cube in 5.253 seconds… and if you think that’s remarkable, the previous Guinness World Record for a human was achieved by Feliks Zemdegs from Australia who completed the Rubik’s Cube in 5.66 seconds. Holy cow, Feliks!
Pro Tip: How to Customize Your Facebook Page’s URL
This week’s pro tip is: how to customize your Facebook Page’s URL. To change your Page’s URL, simply go to http://www.facebook.com/username. Having a customized Facebook URL will make it easier to direct people to your Facebook Page in your print advertising, on your business cards, when referencing it in a radio ad, etc. And it looks sharp. But don’t screw this up, and choose your Page name very carefully – you can only set your Facebook URL once! Before you do this, read our recent blog post about this.

Qwikster Debacle…
Do you remember Qwikster? Me neither. And NetFlix CEO Reed Hastings probably hopes you forget it Qwiksterly too… NetFlix lost over a million customers when they increased their prices in July and with their recent Qwikster debacle. The good news is that they just released the Wonder Years. How many of you had a crush on Winnie Cooper when you were a kid?
Are you one of the people that left, or do you still use NetFlix? Let us know.
BlackBerry Email Outage…
Hey, did you get my email on your BlackBerry the other day? Probably not… and neither did millions of people across the world. Starting at the beginning of the week, people on nearly every continent couldn’t check their email on their BlackBerry. The problem occurred when a “fail safe” backup system failed. BlackBerry co-CEO Jim Ballsillie says they plan to compensate customers very soon… I wonder if he plans to send that update via email! Service should be back to normal soon.

Welcome to the 11th feature of Friday’s Informal Facebook Films!
As well all know, this week we lost Steve Jobs. And here with a few words about that is Chris:
Chris: As many of you know, I’m pretty much an Apple fan boy. I’ve got my iPad, my iPhone, and I use them because they work for me. But Steve Jobs was about much more than technology. As the tributes continue to appear across all forms of media, it struck me how connected people feel to someone they never met and didn’t really know that much about, myself included.
As an inventor for the ages, Steve Jobs was responsible for some of the most creative, widely-used, and loved technologies of our generation. These products also resonated with people, so seemingly did the man who created them. But why? The reason I came up with is that to many people, Steve represented more than just great products — he was a symbol for what is still possible in America — what can still be achieved. And overtime I use my Apple products, I feel like the people who created them understand me and the way I use technology. They make me happy.
So some of the sadness we’re seeing today, I think, is from people like me who wonder if those days are over — if we’re doomed to go back to clunky interfaces and companies who don’t understand us. Well, hopefully with Apple — Steve’s vision will continue to live on for many years to come. As one of his customers and admirers, I thank Steve for his vision, his rebelliousness, and his humanity.

This week’s Pro Tip — How to Add Video to your Email Marketing
Email Service Providers (ESPs) currently don’t allow you to actually embed video for deliverability reasons — the files are too big. To get around this, we recommend uploading screenshots of your video with links attached to the actual video URL (either YouTube, your website, or whatever.).
Here’s how you do it:
We hope you found this helpful! Let us know what you think at Facebook.com.
Welcome to the 10th feature of Friday’s Informal Facebook Films!
On Wednesday, Amazon announced the Kindle Fire, a table that runs on the Android Operating System. Many tech bloggers consider the first serious competitor to the iPad. The Kindle Fire is set to be released in November… just in time for the holidays.
Last week Spotify, the music streaming service, launched their integration with Facebook, and this week — they released a feature called “private listening” which allows you to hide your music preferences from Facebook.
Welcome to the 8th feature of Friday’s Informal Facebook Film, the weekly video blog of Ramblin Jackson, Inc.
This week, Nielsen released a report that four out of every five american adults use Social Networking sites including Facebook, Twitter, & LinkedIn, and that one out of every four minutes they spend online is using those sites… no report as to how much time they actually spend working.
In other news, Microsoft unveiled a beta version of Windows 8 to their developers at their BUILD conference in Anaheim, Calif., on Tuesday. The new operating system features a touch interface, and should come out sometime in 2012. Will this big gamble pay off, or will it yield yet another blue screen of death…
PRO TIP: Use Keywords in your YouTube descriptions, titles & tags.
Did you know that YouTube is the second most-used search engine since 2008? Many businesses make the mistake of uploading videos titled “Promotional Video 5.mov” or something like that, and we recommend that you use keywords in your video title, description and tags to help people find your video through search.
