Welcome to the 11th feature of Friday’s Informal Facebook Films!
As well all know, this week we lost Steve Jobs. And here with a few words about that is Chris:
Chris: As many of you know, I’m pretty much an Apple fan boy. I’ve got my iPad, my iPhone, and I use them because they work for me. But Steve Jobs was about much more than technology. As the tributes continue to appear across all forms of media, it struck me how connected people feel to someone they never met and didn’t really know that much about, myself included.
As an inventor for the ages, Steve Jobs was responsible for some of the most creative, widely-used, and loved technologies of our generation. These products also resonated with people, so seemingly did the man who created them. But why? The reason I came up with is that to many people, Steve represented more than just great products — he was a symbol for what is still possible in America — what can still be achieved. And overtime I use my Apple products, I feel like the people who created them understand me and the way I use technology. They make me happy.
So some of the sadness we’re seeing today, I think, is from people like me who wonder if those days are over — if we’re doomed to go back to clunky interfaces and companies who don’t understand us. Well, hopefully with Apple — Steve’s vision will continue to live on for many years to come. As one of his customers and admirers, I thank Steve for his vision, his rebelliousness, and his humanity.
