Holy smokes, it’s August — I can’t believe it’s been eight years since I started Ramblin Jackson! Time flies when you’re working like a madman on something you love.
First, thank you. Thank you for subscribing, for watching our videos, for working with us. Ramblin Jackson wouldn’t be what it is today without the support of our employees, vendors, friends, families, customers, and coaches.
I was recently featured in a top marketing podcast about the 6 changes I made in my business that helped push Ramblin Jackson from nearly going out of business. Today I wanted to share that podcast with you and some of the things I’ve learned that might help you through a tough time in your business.
I started Ramblin Jackson by accident. I had never even seen an invoice. I was a long-haired hippie struggling to make it as a journalist and musician. The economy wasn’t great, Rocky Mountain News went out of business, and not a lot of papers were hiring young journalists. The hundreds of dollars my band made could hardly pay for the gas it took to get to gigs — so I learned how to hustle doing door-to-door sales as a milkman at a dairy farm.
Bored with slingin’ milk, I bought into what turned out to be a multi-level marketing pyramid scheme product that left me with nothing but credit card debt — but lead me on my path to discovering how local SEO actually worked and the opportunity to start a digital marketing company utilizing my writing & social media skills at the onset of the shift to digital communication and mobile.
Eight years later, Ramblin Jackson is one of the best SEO companies in Boulder, CO, we present regularly at national and local conferences, have served over 300 clients across the country, consistently make our clients a lot of money, and continue to grow at above industry norms for both revenue and profit. We have an incredible team, our processes are dialed in, our products produce results, and we keep getting better and better.
But it hasn’t been all roses and glory. In fact, a couple years ago – I nearly went out of business. I nearly called it quits. It was ugly and I didn’t sleep much that year.
