How To Get Yelp Reviews + Moz LocalUp Advanced Notes [video]
Welcome to the 158th feature of Friday’s Ramblin Roundup!
Moz LocalUp Advanced Recap
Last week I flew out to Seattle to attend LocalUp Advanced, a one-day conference at Moz focused on internet marketing for local businesses.
I saw some of the best speakers in the world on the topic of local search & social media. Attending the conference was a great opportunity to network with other marketers and agency owners, and it was refreshing to meet a bunch of fellow local search weirdos and not feel so alone in the world. The Moz staff was super approachable and helpful, and their office itself is an inspiring atmosphere with great design. Check out my MozCon 2014 Recap for some photos from their office tour + takeaways from that conference.
How To Get Yelp Reviews Via Facebook
I learned a TON at Moz LocalUp! But rather than geek out on all the details, I wanted to share one of my favorite take aways that I think small businesses can implement which is the following tactic to get more Yelp reviews. As we mentioned in a previous post about SEO Mistakes, 90% of consumers say they read online reviews as part of their purchasing decision.
Customers may see you on Yelp even if they don’t start their search there
Depending on your industry, your customers may or may not be searching for you on Yelp… but even if they don’t search for you directly on Yelp, they might Google your brand name after their friend tells them how awesome you are just to snoop you out. Likely, they’ll find your Yelp profile in their search results. Do you want them to read good things about you there?
Also, if you ask Siri for a local business on iPhone – it shows the Yelp Reviews before taking you to Apple Maps. So even Yelp is important – and it can be challenging to get reviews.
In addition to adding a review badge to your website, having Yelp stickers in your windows, and most importantly being awesome offline so people naturally review you, you can help push things along by searching your existing contacts to see who is active on Yelp.
Login to Facebook + Yelp. Click “Find Friends on Facebook” on Yelp
Log into Facebook and Yelp, and then click Find Friends. Click the Find Friends on Facebook, and Yelp will find your Friends who are active on Yelp.
Message your friends with a link to your Yelp profile
You can then message them on Yelp suggesting they check out your Yelp profile. The same feature also works for Gmail, Outlook, and AOL.
The beauty of this is you can then quickly find which of those people are active Yelpers. Having a review from an active Yelp user means their review is more likely to show up on your review list vs. Brother Barry who created a fake account two days ago to write a review just for you. Barry will be on the hidden page of reviews.
Remember to always reply to reviews – especially negative ones. And above all, take your customers feedback to improve your service.
