Book recommendation: Traction by Gino Wickman

I recently read a phenomenal book: Traction by Gino Wickman. If you’re a small business owner, entrepreneur, or manager at a small business, check out today’s video to see why this book should be your next read.

Book Recommendation: Traction by Gino Wickman

Traction, by Gino Wickman, is a great book about running a business and building up your management team and processes. This book is definitely in my top five favorite business books - up there with E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber - because it presents a framework, the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) for creating systems in your business.

The Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS)

The EOS is presented in a simple way that helps you create and communicate your company Vision, how to hire and manage the right people, have data-driven scorecards, document your Way of doing things, and pull it all together. What I liked best about this book is that it has easy-to-use downloadable worksheets and templates to accompany the EOS including little grading systems right in the book. A must-read for entrepreneurs, leaders, managers, and anyone wanting to gain better Traction in their organization. I have so much work to do! Can’t wait to get started.

Key takeaway: Accountability Chart

A key takeaway for me in the book was around creating an Accountability Chart. An Accountability Chart is similar to an organizational chart -- but with the very much added layer of: which person is accountable for which function?

My favorite quote was: “When more than one person is accountable, nobody is.”

When you’re a lean, mean, growing operation like Ramblin Jackson -- people need to wear multiple hats. It’s the nature of small business, and that’s OK. The book says, “you can have one person in two seats, but not two people in one seat.”

When we have issues with quality or communication, I realize it’s often because I haven’t created role clarity and accountability clarity. I look forward to working on that part of my business next.

Download a free chapter from my upcoming book

I love reading books. This was the perfect read for me read now -- thanks Leah Leaves for the recommendation and for reading it with me.

Last weekend I finished the second edit of my upcoming book FOUND: The Local Business Owner’s Guide To Getting Found Online, and I’d love to give you a free chapter and get your feedback.

The chapter I’m giving away is entitled "Are You The Best? Become THE Choice with Strong Reviews." Read this chapter to find out how reviews influence purchasing decisions of your potential customers, how and where to get reviews, a tip on how to respond to negative reviews that was actually featured in an Inc Magazine article online, and more.
