How Playing Mandolin Led Me To Start A Digital Marketing Agency

Do you like bluegrass music?

If you do, you might enjoy today's video where I share the story of my new mandolin, which is a Northfield. It's amazing. I'm really thrilled with it. In this video you’ll hear how playing music led me to learn digital marketing and eventually start Ramblin Jackson.

This all started this summer when Ramblin Jackson turned 10. We had a party and my staff surprised me with a Shure S7B microphone, which is an amazing microphone. I've been thinking about starting a podcast for a while, and I was feeling like the old Friday's Ramblin Roundup theme song was kind of outdated. We'd been using it for about five or six years, and I started recording a new song with my old Kentucky mandolin that Solomon James Goldbas gave me like 15 years ago. It's been a great instrument, but I've been letting my kids play it lately, and it's damaged. I also let it kind of get dried out, and when you play a mandolin with that Shure microphone, you notice all of the imperfections. I just couldn't tune it anymore. I tried fixing it with a luthier, but it was time for a new instrument, and I'm really happy with this new Northfield.

So thanks to the Ramblin Jackson team for helping me get that microphone. It kind of spurred me to start geeking out on audio again and microphones. And what really led me to start doing marketing was in high school, I played in a band, The Joint Chiefs of Staff. We actually recorded our first music on a cassette tape with a boombox, and then we squirreled away some money and recorded in a studio, and we had CDs. Then MySpace came out, and we could put music on the internet. That was so fascinating to figure out how to record something and put it on the internet, and now that's really what led me to start my company, Ramblin Jackson, was that experience. So I'm really excited to start this podcast again and record some more bluegrass. Thanks for checking this out.

Thanks to Avenue Guitars for my sweet new Northfield Mandolin!
