FAQ
A big factor in SEO rankings -- for the Map results (but not the organic web page results) -- is the location of the person’s device AND its proximity to the nearest Google My Business Address. For example if someone 20 miles north of Denver Googles “landscape design denver co”; they will get most likely see Google Map results for the businesses whose address are in the northern part of Denver, where as someone located in the center of Denver who Googles the same thing will see Google Maps results for businesses are closer to them.
One of the reasons we picked 10 miles is because Jack and our Senior SEO Strategist learned from a local SEO conference with a Google My Business representative that 10 miles is a key factor in Google’s algorithm.
In other words -- if you have a competitor who is located more than 10 miles from you, it’s not worth fretting too much over their SEO because customers who are located closer to them are going to find them anyway.
When someone contacts Ramblin Jackson who may overlap with your Exclusivity, we’ll contact you before working with them and have an Exclusivity Conversation.
Sometimes, the other company isn’t a direct competitor to you after all, and we’re able to work with both of you without diminishing results. We also look for opportunities to serve you in different ways. One time, we ended up facilitating a lucrative referral partnership between two clients in the same town. One did design/build AND maintenance, and the other just did design/build. The new company ended up listing maintenance on their website, which they then referred to the full service company -- and sometimes, the full service company hired the other for design.
If we conclude that the other company:
- Is within 10 miles of your office address - or your target city -
- AND you say that there’s a Primary Service conflict of interest
- AND there’s not a win-win referral opportunity and you’d like for us to decline them
We will then decline the new contractor, and add them to our Wait List.
We’ll also ask if you know another landscape company - who is NOT your competitor - who might welcome our Landscaper’s Marketing Toolbox as a gift! (We’ll ship them a copy of Jack’s book and some beef jerky).
1. 10 Miles from your office Address
~ or ~
2. 10 Miles from the center of the City you’ve selected as your Primary Location.
Yes! Additional Service categories or Target City may be purchased for $1000/mo each.
No, Exclusivity is strictly for businesses within a 10 mile radius of your business address in the same primary category. It is possible that another landscape company has overlapping service area pages.
Exclusivity continues for the duration of your Annual Service Agreement. As long as you are an active Wild Frontier client AND maintain a 4.0 Google My Business rating AND participate in conversations when we call regarding potential issues.
Exclusivity is only offered for Wild Frontier Annual Plans, not month-to-month agreements.
Having Exclusivity increases your chance of ranking highly on Google for competitive search phrases your potential customers are searching, which means you’re more likely to get the leads.

Selecting the “best” Primary Service Area is much more of a Business Decision than it is an SEO Decision. Your knowledge of the local area and market opportunity should be the driving force behind this decision; there is not a lot of SEO data we can bring on this. As real estate agents say: Location, Location, Location.
Where are your Hell Yes Customers located? Let this guide the decision.
Sometimes, landscape companies have their headquarters based in a rural or industrial area that isn’t necessarily where their Hell Yes Customers are located.
In this case, you may choose your Hell Yes Customer city. For example, we have a client whose Hell Yes Customer is located in Richmond, Virginia, while their shop is technically located 20 miles away. In this case, they have selected Richmond as their Primary Service Area for their exclusivity.
No. Exclusivity is for Wild Frontier clients only. There is no right of first refusal outside of Wild Frontier.
Yes, we do have non-exclusive clients - typically at our Gold Nugget level. If a new Wild Frontier client joins and we already have a non-exclusive client in that area, we’ll compare service offerings to see if there is direct competition. There may also be an opportunity for a referral or other partnership. However, if the non-exclusive client is in direct competition with the new Wild Frontier client we will no longer actively work with them on their On-Page SEO and online marketing, after the conclusion of their Annual Plan.
We cannot prevent another company from opening an office in someone else’s city.
