When I was in Texas for the TNLA’s Nursery/ Landscape Expo, I was invited to be on the news with KVUE in Austin, TX to talk about my new book Get FOUND Online: The Local Business Owner’s Guide to Digital Marketing. At the conference, we were donating all of the profits from the book to the TNLA Foundation, a non profit focused on giving scholarships to youth interested in horticulture. Here is a clip from the interview!
Ashley Goudeau: Small business owners know standing out online can be hard to do, but there are some practical steps you can take to stand out from the crowd. Jack Jostes, president and CEO of digital marketing agency Ramblin' Jackson is here to help. You actually wrote a book on this very subject.
Jack Jostes: I just published Get FOUND Online, the local business owner's guide to digital marketing. This book walks small business owners through a proven process to get found by better customers online without wasting money on advertising that doesn't work.
Ashley: Just give us some quick points, things that people can do if they're struggling in business, owners are struggling to get found.
Jack: One of the challenges I see is that a lot of small businesses rely on referrals. If you're only getting referrals, and you don't like your customers, you're going to get more bad customers. You want to be proactive in your marketing to really define who do I want to work with, and make it really clear on your marketing that you solve their pains and problems on your website, that you use the key words and things that they would search on Google, so they ultimately find and choose your business.
Ashley: You're from Colorado, but you're here in Texas. Tell us why.
Jack: I'm the keynote speaker at the Texas Nursery Landscape Association's nursery landscape expo. It's a conference with about 6,000 people in the green industry, landscapers, garden centers, green industry. I'll be sharing how the Texas economy is changing. People from out of state are moving here and finding their vendors online. I'll be sharing how to design a website that really attracts the right customers and get reviews, not only to get new customers, but also to solve recruiting problems. A lot of businesses are having a hard time hiring right now throughout the United States and especially in Texas. I'll be sharing why recruiting is a marketing activity and how to use your digital presence through your reviews and your website to really attract the right candidates.
Ashley: Fascinating. Now you obviously are going to be selling the book there, but you're going to be doing something really good that will pay back in Austin.
Jack: It will, yeah. The Texas Nursery Landscape Association is based here in Austin. They have scholarships for young adults who are pursuing careers in horticulture. As you mentioned in the show earlier, there's growing problems with college debt and all these things. A lot of people don't know that they could pursue a career in horticulture. I'll be donating 100% of the profit from my book sales to the TNLA Foundation to help raise money for scholarships. People can buy those from our booth and also on our website at FoundChapter.com/Texas.
Ashley: Fantastic. Thank you so much for joining us this morning. We certainly appreciate it. Of course, we have a link to the book on our website foundchapter.com/texas/ if you guys want to buy it and help out.
