Did you recently get some sweet reviews from your favorite customers... only to notice they weren't showing up anymore a week or so later? Chances are they’re hidden in the “not recommended” section on your Yelp profile… But why? What can you do about it?
Yelp filters reviews - and it’s actually a good thing
Yelp filters their reviews. In my opinion, it’'s a good thing, really -- because this way only reviews from active Yelpers are shown (vs. reviews from business owner’s friends who may not be actual customers or whose reviews may be biased base on their relationship). This makes the reviews on Yelp as a whole more credible -- which in turn increases Yelp’s value proposition in the market. If more people use/trust Yelp -- then the Advertising Yelp sells will be more valuable to small business owners.

What to do about it? Get good reviews from active Yelpers!
Now that you know why Yelp filters out some of your reviews, it’s time to stop whining and focus on getting reviews from active Yelpers.
Pro tip: login to Facebook at the same time as Yelp to see which of your Friends in your network are active yelpers, and reach out to them there.
Post Yelp things in your print materials, bathroom if you're a brick and mortar, etc.
